So I've been watching a lot of youtubez lately - more so now than before because of ShanksSaturday, ShmexaSunday, MitchellMonday, and MalDoranMonday over on the Twitterwebz. I make sure to check my 'Recommended For You' section a few times a day for new vids to post for those days...well, I've also been searching out a lot of my favorite stuff (from shows and such)...So now I come with a massive video spam of random things that I think many of you will enjoy seeing or rewatching:

Yaaay vidz! )

So yeah, mixed back of tricks here...not much Michael (other than the Andromeda stuff) b/c I believe we've all watched much of it already *snirk*. Anywho, hope you enjoyed at least one of the vids...

So I need to catch up on my reading since that ended up not happening last night, but I figured I'd post a little bit before I settled into that.

Just got back from seeing Pocahontas at the SLC (it was gonna be The Little Mermaid, but they changed it to Pocahontas last minute. Didn't matter - it was a Disney movie on the big screen). Enjoyed it, of course. I remember seeing it in theaters when it first came out. And even now, I still got goosebumps watching it. They really don't make movies like that anymore (which is why I'm so excited for The Princess and the Frog! XD). I was thrown when Savages P.1 came around because the soundtrack version of the song is DEFINITELY different then the movie version. Clearly some MAJOR changes went into it btwn the OST and when it was released. The OST version is definitely more hardcore than the theatrical version. Guess they were forced to change it. And honestly, I still don't see how it can give kids the wrong impression b/c even just watching it now I KNEW both sides were wrong for judging and all that stuff. Knew it back then, too. But we won't get into the politics of Disney and their movies. LOL.

I missed my math recitation today. I didn't want to, but it was pouring down rain and I can't risk getting sicker than I already am this close to Dragon*Con. It was a quiz, but if I'm remembering correctly they drop the lowest quiz grade so it shouldn't affect me too much. Thank god next Monday is a holiday. Otherwise I'd be missing two recitations in a row - not good.

Sickness wise, things are looking up already. I had some sleepy time tea last night, along with some Echinacea and Nyquil, to help me get a good night's sleep and fight off this ickyness. Woke up feeling bleh, but after some more vitamins and drinking a lot of water, I've started to feel better. Will repeat last night's before bed regimen tonight. Hopefully that will knock out this cold or whatever for good. I did buy some Dayquil today just in case, and plan to have it with me when I go to D*C. I REFUSE to let ickyness get me down!

Alrighty, I really need to settle in to this reading and get it knocked out.

I blame getting sick because...well, I am. And honestly it's hard to think about much right now. I'm trying to get into a fandomy mood (leaning towards working on some vid ideas)...doesn't mean a quote will come easily. LOL.

Only 3 more days left until I head off to Atlanta for Dragon*Con. Honestly, right now, I'm kinda just feeling bleh about it. I'm sure I'll have fun while there, it's just riding Greyhound to GET there isn't going to be enjoyable. Greyhound never is. And then the ride BACK?! Oh joy. Can't WAIT. Plus, getting sick now only makes that seem like more of a hassle. *sigh* This would all still be soooooo worth it if Michael and Lexa were going to be there. Don't get me wrong - I'm looking forward to seeing Ben and Claudia and pretty much everyone else I just saw in Chicago - as well as seeing many of my friends from the interwebz/Twitterwebz. Just...it would be nice to be seeing Michael again and FINALLY getting to see Lexa, ya know?

Spent this weekend kinda just chillaxing around here and hanging out with my friends. Friday night didn't end up being as crazy as first thought. There was drinking involved, of course. We did see part of the drag show, but then ended up leaving and heading back to David's. Had a little bit more to drink, and then went to Rayne. Maybe is was just this impending sickness, but I pretty much just sat around at Rayne and watched everyone else dance. Yesterday was Amanda's birthday, so we went out to eat at Logan's. Then we ended up at Border's. I was going to get Prisoner of Azkaban for my Religion class (it's the only one I couldn't find here at the bookstore), but it was $11. That's RIDICULOUS. I looked for the second Burn Notice novel, but they only had the first. So I ended up leaving the bookstore WITHOUT a book (*GASP*, right?). We ended up at the fountain, where of course I ended up in the damn thing again (voluntarily, again, of course). After that, it was a run to Blockbuster (where I got photographic evidence of Mega Snake and Swarmed being available to rent - yes, I am shameless about these things). We rented a few movies, and came back to watch Push first while drinking some margaritas. I enjoyed the movie - will need to watch it again since it was so damn hard to HEAR the movie. But yeah...I came back to the suite first while they stayed and watched Zoolander.

Today I picked up my room and got a little more organized classes wise. I did attempt to do homework, but the math didn't work out because the site kept crashing Firefox. And the reading for my other classes didn't work because all it did was make me sleepy. Ended up taking a nap. I think I may attempt to read some more if just to get more caught up. If not, I'll have A LOT of reading to do tomorrow evening. Really don't want that.

Random stuff:

~ Either The Little Mermaid or Pocahontas is showing tomorrow at the SLC. Not sure which. I do know we will be going to see it, what it turns out to be. Honestly, I hope it's TLM only because I saw Pocahontas in theaters - would love to see TLM!

~ We all read fanfic in our suite. Well, I was reading some today and Paris (who I share my side of the suite with) comes into my room and then goes 'OH, Daniel...' in a sort of disappointed voice. Apparently she was hoping I was branching out and reading from another fandom (they read Harry/Draco fanfic mostly). Silly girl. WHAT was she thinking??

~ I have nothing else random to say. *snirk*

So this article has made me get my rant on: Her Prince Has Come. Critics, too.

Dude, people need to back off Disney's case. I have never believed in this whole Disney/race debate thing... if there's anything Disney has done wrong recently, it's known as Hannah Montana. Why get on their case for getting back to what made them a household name in the first place (okay, maybe Disney himself made it a household name, but that's neither here nor there)?

As someone who grew up watching the CLASSIC Disney movies, I can tell you we knew what was going on. The line in Aladdin's opening song didn't make me think all Arabs are crazy bad and will cut someone to pieces if they don't like your face. I knew the song 'Savages' in Pocahontas was portraying a BAD example of how to behave to those different than you.

I was once watching a documentary on this Disney/race issue, and they made note of how all the hyenas in the Lion King were voiced by black/hispanic people so that made The Lion King racist also. Ummm, newflash - Mufasa was voiced by James Earl Jones. Kinda puts a damper on such claims of racism, doesn't it?

I commend Disney for doing what they do - they take classic stories and make them so kids can watch/enjoy them. Sure, a lot of the stories are changed for content b/c the originals are very dark/twisted (case in point: The Brothers Grimm's 'Cinderella' versus Disney's), but it makes them timeless and watchable for all ages. Then there's at least some kind of interest invested in them by the kids, and when they get older and get to high school/college they LEARN the differences and yet can still appreciate what they grew up watching.

I'm looking FORWARD to the Princess and the Frog. They are getting back to the hand drawn awesomeness, and it being placed in New Orleans means it has potential to have some AWESOME songs that can fit in with the likes of The Little Mermaid and Mulan. It's been missed, at least by me, for a LOOOONG time.

Oh, and people bitch about Disney not portraying things accurately, and then when they try and do something that's histortically accurate to the time this new movie is based in, they're called racists? Wowsers, people...

And now I'm done...if you have any thoughts on this matter, I'd definitely like to hear them. Whether you condemn disney for this new movie or congradulate them for it, doesn't matter. Nothing like a good healthy debate on the matter, right?

Just a quick post so to show I haven't abandoned LJ for twitter (I've just been uber exhausted from sickness these past few days and haven't done much of ANYTHING really)...

Madre and I got these Sea Sponge sponges yesterday at Wally World, and they are rather nice. And tonight I was using mine and realized how squishy it was...and that is was a SEA sponge...and the first thing that popped in my mind was:

"I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine. He shall be my squishy."

*snirk* Yes, I am a 20 year old with the mind of a five year old! XP

That is all for this touch of randomness!

BTW, Finding Nemo is the SHIT, okay? Don't mock me for loving the fish movie!

So, me and [livejournal.com profile] dvshipper are discussing the disappointing DEATH of decent Disney animated features these days (actually, in the past several YEARS). This has always been a ranting topic for me because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Disney. Not just the movies (and I'm referring to the GOOD movies here - not the crap they produce now), but the WHOLE of Disney - Walt Disney is a personal hero of mine. He was inventive, creative, had an IMAGINATION, and knew what he was doing. A one of a kind man who can NEVER be replaced...

And honestly, I think he would turn over in his grave (if he hadn't been cremated, of course) if he knew what state Disney as a whole was in now (excluding Disney World theme parks, because those are timeless...every time I go, I remember WHY I love Disney)...

The shows today are crap, and so are the movies. Now I will admit to watching Hannah Montana and a few others on occasion - that show is TOLERABLE (sorry [livejournal.com profile] taraleesg1) - but the ONLY time I watch Disney Channel passionately these days is when they are showing one of the Animated Classics...

So this discussion being had over AIM prompted me to go hunt down a timeline of the Disney Animated features to see, TRULY, what I consider to be the last of the GOOD movies - it is something I've been wanting to do for a while now.

Using this page ~~ > List of Disney theatrical animated features, I have made my own opinions on the nature of Disney Animated features...

Last GOOD Disney Animated Feature: Brother Bear

Last GREAT Disney Animated Feature: Lilo and Stitch (1st MOVIE, that came out IN THEATERS in 2002)

Last DISNEY CLASSIC: Tarzan

There are a few shining stars in between these, of course...

Especially for The Emperor's New Groove (again JUST the movie), which I honestly think is the FUNNIEST, WITTIEST, MOST SARCASTIC Disney movie EVAR! What makes it not in the "DISNEY CLASSIC" area is the fact that it doesn't have the expected Disney Music, which you can find in ALMOST EVERY Disney animated film since SNOW WHITE up to Tarzan...

Enchanted also was VERY GOOD, but one must remember that it was directed by a FAN of CLASSIC Disney - so basically the whole movie was a homeage to the greatness that once was Disney movies, and also that it's not entirely animated (actually, only a small portion of the movie is)...

Now, I don't count the Disney/Pixar movies in this overview - they are in a category all their own. Though I feel they are all good, the earlier stuff is the better for sure. I think 'The Incredibles' was what dimmed the shiny that was these movies for me. Cars is my least favorite of the lot, and Ratatouille was pretty good, but still falls short of the greatness that were the original five (the two Toy Stories, A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc, and my all time favorite - FINDING NEMO). I do have high hopes for WALL-E...I have a feeling that one will capture the Disney/Pixar of old. (ya know, now that I think about it, it probably was the original falling out between the companies that dimmed their shinyness).

It's just so HEARTBREAKING for me for kids these days NOT appreciating the greatness that are these classics because they don't have their own generation classics! And the fact that's it's near impossible to find some of these classics only exasperates the matter. My generation was obviously the last to get these wonderful pieces of art, and for that I'm thankful, but it's sad that my children won't have the luxury of getting such masterpieces in theaters - though there is no doubt I will provide these movies for them (for whenever I HAVE them)...

So yeah, that's my opinion of the state of Disney these days (and it's not just tied to Disney - I feel the same about the state of Nickelodeon...crap tv, if you ask me. I harbor some feelings for Nick as Nite too (and the absense of SNICK) because they stopped showing the CLASSICS like Gilligan's Island and I Love Lucy), but I don't hate the shows they show now b/c these are my generation's sitcoms).

Of course y'all have a right to agree or disagree with my opinions...strike up a debate in a comment if you want. I'll gladly talk about this subject more! XP

Oh, and for the record, for those who didn't already know, my all time favorite Disney Movie?

THE LION KING, OF COURSE!

I am hating myself...why, you may ask?

Because the brilliant one that I am, I managed to drop my phone in the toilet. Of course it was purely accidental, but it's still the fact that my wonderful $140 phone can end up in the toilet simply because of my inability to think ahead.

It was the combination of rushing to be somewhere (which was pointless anyway, cause what I wanted wasn't even there!), wearing jeans that are brand new (with much smaller pockets that I'm not used to), and simply being frelling dumb on my part.

So yeah, i immediately came back to my room and took the battery out (not until after the phone itself started doing this weird vibrating thing), and IMed Tar to txt Madre, and tell her to get on AIM as soon as she could. Madre got on, and I told her...

Got her to confirm for me that I do, in fact, have insurance on my phone, so if it doesn't come back to life like my tracfone did after it was submerged, I can go to a Verizon store and get a new one free of charge. But I don't think I'll need to do that. I'm hoping I don't need to do that...like, that would seriously suck spaghetti <~~This is my new phrase, if you couldn't tell...

Just a reference for later: If it does come back from the dead, then it will officially be Daniel II - Daniel I is my tracfone, since I was sure it was dead for good and it came back to life. So if I mention Daniel II, that's what I'll be talking about.

Onto other named inanimate objects: Billy left Jacksonville this morning at some unknown hour (I seriously think amazon is having problems with updating their tracking system - that or people aren't marking when it's dropped off and where) - I'm a little uncertain now cause Billy is coming USPS when I thought he was coming UPS (since pretty much everything I order on amazon comes UPS), and packages that come USPS are supposed to go to the Post Office. But since I thought it was coming UPS, I had it sent to my Kellum address *worries lip* Will Billy ever make it to me now??

Took a test yesterday in my math recitation - I got an 84 on it. It was the word problems that threw me. I couldn't remember which solution went with which wording, and it was obvious when I clicked the 'grade' button. LoL. I have an opportunity to make it up at next week's recitation, and whichever score is higher is the one that will be recorded. Idk if I want to go...I mean, it's not like I'm risking my 84 and when I take into consideration the fact that I got a 50 on my first quiz - but I know me...I know I'll probably get caught up in something and just end up not going.

Also yesterday, went to go pick up ATU and The Aristocats on DVD. Ended up also getting two new pairs of jeans and a tank top from Pac Sun - I couldn't pass up two pairs of jeans for $55, especially when their jeans usually run for $40 each. And the pair that i'm wearing now, OMG LVOE! They are tight, but that comfortable tight that I love, and they make my legs look amazing. Their sunbleached, which is nice cause I didn't have any light-colored jeans before this. Also got another color-type in the same kind (huntington flare), but they don't seem to fit as nice. But they look good, and like a said they were a good price, so can't complain.

I'm so happy to finally have ATU on DVD! We all watched it in Madeline's room last night, though I said to Paris that the next time we watch it, me and her need to watch it with just us cause the others didn't really seem to care...and yet, I still love them!

I need to do laundry and study for my Latin quiz tomorrow, but that'll be after I eat cause I am seriously famished!

Oh, oh, oh....just remembered I was going to talk about all the fics I have to do...

~I have the prompt for the DV ficathon on [livejournal.com profile] daniel_vala. I finally have the idea all planned out, and just have to get the oomph to let the brabbit loose on wordpad.

~I also signed up for two tables on [livejournal.com profile] sg_15_fics. One of them is Daniel/Vala (ofcourse!) and the other is Cam/Carolyn - I figured having prompts will give me enough oomph to finally start writing that ship.

~Ofcourse, there's all my series fics that i'm always working on, most prominently the latest AU piece (the historical fiction AU that was inspired by The Tudors) which is in fact sitting open right now on my desktop. I had it going one direction, but didn't like it, so I changed it up - it's still leading to the same result, so...

And in other things I'm doing wise, I joined [livejournal.com profile] fs_lims, and am starting in on the next round as soon as it begins. I figured a little icon making challenge will mix things up with all the fic I need to write.

So yeah, back to the food thing...let me depart and get a to-go box from fresh food.

LoL. I have an opportunity to make it up at next week's recitation, and whichever score is higher is the one that will be recorded. dannysgirlsg1: (Dala - No Sleep Tonight)
My god, I'm horrible... Both Monday, and Today, I only went to one of my classes for the day.

Monday was understandable - I didn't get in until 3:30am from S. Florida, so after a full day of the Chili Cookoff (meaning a 6am wakeup call, and pretty much ALL DAY in the hot FL sun), and a long as frell drive back up here to Tally (including a blown-out tire 170 miles out of Orlando...), there was no way I was gonna be awake for my 9:05 Latin class...hell, I wasn't even awake for my Folklore class...

And of course I was awake by the time my Myth class started, but I was too damn exhausted to go. I just didn't have the energy to walk halfway across campus...hell, I barely had the frelling energy to make it to the PO and Einstein's for a bagel...

I did manage to make my Math class on Monday, and made it to Latin yesterday, as well as my recitation for math.

But again, today I just couldn't get motivated enough to make it to Latin - I think it's b/c I have that class FOUR days a week that makes going so frelling unappealing - Anywho, I did walk all the way out to Williams (which is on the other end of campus, mind you) just to find out my Folklore class was cancelled. *headdesk* So missing that one wasn't my fault, but I kinda wanted to have the class since I haven't been there since last Wednesday (since I missed it Friday as well). I went to my Myth class today (which is a good thing, considering I didn't know the myth stuffs we went over - wow, what a concept!), but managed to somehow lose track of time and miss my math class *headdesk*

Now I can't miss anymore of Latin, or I will start losing points of my grade. I guess that's a good thing, though, considering it'll keep me motivated to go to class. I emailed the TA on Monday afternoon, asking if I could makeup my quiz, but I can only do that during her office hours - which are 7:45 - 8:45 in the morning, in a hall that is near impossible to navigate. I don't think I can handle... that... that early in the morning. It also doesn't help that I'm still feeling kinda worn out from the trip...

So yeah, the trip...let's talk about the fun from that!

Merry came and picked me up Friday afternoon. Had to walk all the way to Westcott to meet her and lead her back to Kellum. We jammed the whole way home (especially to some classic BSB and Spice Girls!), making a pit stop in Orlando to pick up her dog who was depressed without her.

Saturday, we had to get up early to help out at the ROtC drill meet at Merry's high school. I did a lot more math that day then I really wanted to, but it was a pretty fun experience. We then got our hair cut...

New Haircut

And then went to the mall, where I picked up some new sunglasses and a shiny new camera (b/c my old one is crappier then hell and the batteries die like instantly!), while Merry got some more running shoes.

Then, the highlight of Saturday was going to get my first tattoo... I decided on the 'Life Finds A Way' one...

Life Finds a Way

A Closer Look...

It took so long for him to finally START on the tattoo, that the plans we had made to go see Sweeney Todd were botched. We got back to her house at like midnight (after dealing with the waste case of a friend of hers that is Jackie...*shakes head in disbelief*), and went to bed.

Then Sunday was the cookoff, which ofcourse was a blast (not counting the fact that my back an knees were hurting like crazey!). Got a couple of t-shirts and a fake tattoo (the airbrushed one Merry got on her back just confirms how much of a whimp she is! :P), and of course saw the artists performing - Joe Nichols was just amazing. I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan, and having to deal with all the bitchy wannabee cowgirls there to see just here was a pain in the ass - they even started fighting during her performance. But her guitarist was petty frelling cute, so that made it worth it. Gretchen Wilson was cool, but half the songs she sang I didn't know... What sucked was they gave Cowboy Troy like half his own performance, so that meant we had to leave after only two of Big and Rich's songs - but i HAVE seen them before, so it wasn't too bad.

Here are my two albums on facebook:

Hobbits Gone Country: Chili Cookoff '08 (Album 1)

Hobbits Gone Country: Chili Cookoff '08 (Album 1)

It was a good thing we left when we did, too, since her tire blew out on the road. Her parents thought she was just going back up to Orlando, and I would be catching a bus back here (which they thought was the deal for when we went down there...brilliant), so she had to make up another little lie when she called her dad when it happened. Thankfully there was a rest stop not far up the road, and we had a Trooper help us fix the tire (speaking of Troopers, she got a ticket on her way up to pick me up). So the rest of the drive, she could only go a max of 60, so that added another 2 1/2 hours to the drive - plus we still had the dog cause she said if she stopped in Orlando to take Puppy home, I wouldn't make it home.

Then of course we had to stop at Walmart when we got to Tally. Both of her phones were dead, and I refused to let her drive back without getting a charger for her phone. So I bought her one so I wouldn't be a nervous reck and unable to sleep.

So yesterday I went to the mall - I had to pick up some after care stuff for my tattoo. I got that, and handful of other things. I picked up Alice In Wonderland on DVD since it's going back in the vault tomorrow. I also have Aladdin, so I'm covered this time for the vault-returning movies that I wanted - I'm not much of a Cinderella fan...not like Aladdin...and Alice In Wonderland is too trippy to NOT HAVE (it is the most wonko Disney movie like EVAR! Plus Chesire is my hero)! I also couldn't help from getting S.5 and S.6 of Gilmore Girls (I've been Rory/Logan deprived for too long!)...Best Buy had them listed for $48.99, but they rang up for $19.99, so it was a good buy. And it must've been my lucky day, cause not only the price on the DVD sets nice, but that was the only copy of Alice in Wonderland Best Buy had left, AND I went in Borders to find they had ONE copy of the Season 10 Companion!!

So I've watched a lot of GG stuffs since last night (hence the subject line :D)...And I've even started to read a couple of GG Fanfics...Yesh, you can gasp, I have branched out from my mostly SG-1 fanfic comfort zone....

Okie day, I think that's it for this very insightful entry...Now I need to put a letter in V.III of the Chronicles, then I think I might go to bed a little early for me...cause wow, I'm tired...
