Now you guys know (or at least SHOULD know) how much I love archaeology...if I didn't love it so much, there probably wouldn't have been any interest in SG-1 and it definitely wouldn't be my chosen career path...

Still, I don't love it sooo much that I love studying for an archaeology exam. You think something like this would be easy and enjoyable, and yet...it's not. I think I had more fun last year cramming all that info in about primates and human behavior for the physical anthro class than I am having right now trying to get all this info for my archaeo. test.

In all honesty, it's NOT the information I'm studying...actually, I'm finding it all very fascinating (as should be expected). Especially b/c this test (which, even though it technically falls on a finals week day, it's just a regular exam - with on exception) focuses on the Americas, and Teotihuacan is one of the sites focused on. So I can make Crystal Skull/City of the Gods references which help me somewhat.

It's more ALL the information I'm being forced to remember. He gave us a study guide, which has all the usual test stuff plus two essay questions (this is that once exception I mentioned). He also informed us he's only picking ONE of the prompts, and we won't know which one it is until we take the test. So we have to study ALL the information anyways. It's pointless - an overabundance of information can be just as dangerous as having too little information. AND he wants details, such as specific names and dates. I understand this is archaeology and dates and names ARE important. Still, can we REALLY be expected to remember the dates and names from EVERY period/site we've learned in the class?? Even the prof himself can only tell us specifically when he was his notes/slides in front of him - seems a bit hypocritical to me!

*phew* Okay, that was my rant for this year's finals week. Last year, it was about 7:30 AM exams (thankfully have NONE this semester). This year, it's about the format of the tests.

~Pip

P.S. - So not sure how many know this, but last year at ChiCon, Michael apologized for being my inspiration to be an archaeologist (jokingly, of course...I think...or not! XP). Well, at the time, I laughed and it was all good fun. Now?? I ACCEPT THAT DAMN APOLOGY! XP

I love how I decided to miss my third class of the day (he doesn't take attendance anyways) to come back here, eat some lunch, and study for my History test...

...And ended up finishing a rather lengthy fic I started last night at way too late a time (when all I wanted to do was finish it but knew I couldn't).

Kids, this is why you stay away from fandom. It will eventually override all other options when it feels it's completely necessary.

Or maybe it's just cause there's been such a lack of decent DV fic (or any DV fic, really) lately that I was in desperate need to fill the void.

Yeah - I'm gonna go with that.

Well, I'm home! XD

We got home last night at about 12:30 - and as much as I wanted to watch SG-1 (I mean, it was Icon and Avatar - of course I wanted to watch them!), I just couldn't stay up. After this past week, my brain was tired and needed sleep.

So Madre and I spent today moving some things around the living room and setting up most of the Christmika decorations (all that's left is the tiny tree and the outside lights). We ended up putting both trees in the living room this year since the dining room is full of laundry and other crap (like a headless duck! *snirk*). The water softener took a crap, so Madre can't do her laundry (oh, and we can't take showers either - I feel particularly icky right about now) and she's got it piled up in the dining room right in front of the laundry room (right where my tree would go).

There's still so many things I have to get done before Trey gets here on Friday (I've already requested that day off so I can go with Smurfinator) - After I get done posting, I need to go add my birthday message for Michael over on MSOL. I need to work on my prompt for the dv gift exchange still, I've been demanded by my brabbits to write a DV Christmika-y fic. There's still so much shopping left to be done (I only have one present for one person at the moment - shame!) ... Plus I'm working tomorrow and Tuesday... *sigh* I've left school, but it doesn't seem the busy-ness has let up!

At least there's no studying involved!

OH, speaking of studying - I managed to get an A on my ANT Final, and an A- all together in my EUH class! On top of that, I ended up with a B in my GLY class so this semester has tuned out pretty well. I'm still waiting to see what I get as an overall grade in ANT and then there's GEA - but so far I'm happy.

Okie donkie, I've got some dinner to eat hear, and then I think it's time to start in on some of that stuff I need to get done!

So I'm pretty sure I'm gonna bomb this last final... well, maybe not bomb as much as not do well. It would be fine if it was just the usual exam with pictures and maps and stuff (it's my geography exam), but no. He's making us do TWO essays on US involvement in other countries, and these essays are worth 20% of the grade on the final.

This is a 1000 level course on Geography - WHY are we doing essays on topics like US antidemocracy campaigns and the problems in the Middle East?! It's really upsetting me b/c I'm spending so much focusing on just getting the topics for the essays right that I'm not really focusing on the normal stuff for the test. I really want to cry over this right now...

I'm so glad this is my last exam - I'm tired of this shit and after this week I seriously need a break from school!

Now i'm heading off to Starbucks for my chai, where I will try and study as much of the notes/maps as I can. There's no guarantee I won't give up and just start reading Roswell while I'm there.

*sigh*

Oh, and I'll be shutting my computer down right after I make this post so I can get it packed and ready. Smurfinator should be here by the time I get out of the dreaded exam, and I know he'll want to get going ASAP. So next time I post, I'll be back home and past all this damn school crap.

So not only did I have another 7:30 exam this morning, but it's also wonderfully RAINY with the temperature dropping quickly. And since it was so nice and wet and windy, there was no possible way I could've managed to hold my umbrella and carry a chai so I went without...

One good thing is I have that lovely windbreaker I got at the NJ convention last year, so I didn't get wet much at all (and neither did my bag for that matter since the jacket is about 5 sizes too big)...

And the exam was quite easy - apparently my fron had taken in all the right information yesterday when studying. I got the test done in 15 minutes.

But alas, I am tired and am gonna crawl back in bed for a few hours like I did yesterday - then I'll get up and study for my EUH exam which is also today, but at the much more doable time of 5:30 this afternoon. After I get back from that exam, i'll get to study for the GEA one tomorrow (I already know it's gonna be the most troublesome - there's two essays)... and I wonder why my brain feels so fried this week!

Also, my holy shit moment of the day: There is snow on the ground at home - home as in Southern Louisiana. Madre told me they were predicting an inch on the ground, and I was amazed. But to actually see it (she sent me a picture txt) is another thing. And she said it was still snowing out. Why does the interesting shit happen when i'm not home?! As a person who grew up in South Florida, I have never seen actual snow and I want to! *pouts* I know it'll be gone by this afternoon, and watch...by the time I'm home onSaturday, it'll be 78 F again!  I sooo blame Bingo for this *snirk*

It should be downright illegal to have finals at 7:30 in the morning (which is why I'm up before sun right now!)

It's just plain cruel that it's my ANT final today - a necessary class, and as always there's so much information (it's a cumilitave final, btw!) that I didn't study everything...

Hopefully the 16 hours of studying i did do will pay off...

Gee, can we tell I watched Titanic (at least part of it) today?? XD That movie is such love!

Anywho, as I see I haven't updated enough and Twitter posts have taken over the journal again, I'm posting SOMETHING - though it's not all random nonsense...I do have a few substantial updatey things to post.

Let's get those out of the way...

Yesterday, I got all caught up on my 365 posting, so there's lots of shiny new pics up on [info]pips_image_dump (just in case you HAVEN'T already joined over there and didn't have the massive flist!spam of pics). They're all pretty boring mundane stuff covering every day of the past month in my OH SO EXCITING life, but I think there are some good ones in there. Just the always reminder that it's members only (to protect the identity of anyone that's not ME in the pictures XP), but it's simple to join. I mean, of course, if you wanna see pics from this little part of the universe!

Today I was also productive and got all the fics I didn't have posted on [info]brabbit_hole up and able to be read over there. So everything I've posted on the dv comm that y'all might've enjoyed, it's there. And I also got [info]brabbit_tables up to date, so if you don't feel like searching through the tags on the actual fic journal, everything is up over on the tables journal.

Now that those announcements are done...we can get back to the regularly programmed randomness.

I realized today that I wasn't being too observant when looking at my ANT scores, and i'm NOT actually gonna fail that class. Where I had thought I got a 48/100 on the first test, it was really 48/60! That's an 80! Compared to thinking I got an F, that is a MAJOR relief... And found out that I got a 47/60 on the second exam. So a B and a C - if I do bangarang (told you I was using that shit!) on the final, I might be able to pull off a B in the class - which is fine by me!

Still have a shit load of movies I need to watch... I'm debating if I should dive into that tonight or work on some fic. I have a decent list of picked prompts for [info]mission_insane (thanks to [info]dvshipper!), and have been feeling inspired to work on several already started series and maybe work on other possible ideas. As much as I want to watch the movies, I know I should write when the brabbits are feeling generous and are attacking like crazy. So it's likely I'll end up writing tonight.

Urgo was the surprise!ep (I call it that b/c it's the syndicated episode shown by CW on the weekends at midnight - and the online schedule doesn't have the actual episode title listed) last night, and I was happy! It'd been too long since I watched it - but I think that's how that episode needs to be watched. So you forget about the REALLY funny parts and laugh just as hard as you did when you first watched it. (I have my ONE part that I end up forgetting about every time and I crack up every time) Anywho, it's gonna be on again tonight, and I'm quite excited!

23 Days until I get to go home! I'm so fucking excited for that! I miss home... *sniff* But what kinda makes it torture is next weekend will end up being a six day weekend for me - a PERFECT opportunity to go home. See, I don't have classes Fridays or Mondays, and next Tuesday is Veteran's Day, so I have no classes. And on weeks that there won't be one ANT lab, they cancel ALL ANT labs - so that means from Friday to Wednesday, I have no classes to go to. It's a good thing I have no money to go home, or I might've just said screw it that I'd be back two weeks later and would've gone home. What would be ideal is to use next weekend to see Merry, but alas that requires dineros as well. It sucks being dirt poor - but i know it's all part of the 'college experience' - HA!

Okie donkie, that's it for now - I'm gonna post again with anothe poll because well..... IT'S GONNA BE A BALL OFF! (I just wanted to say it! XP)

I was gonna put "I'm committing suicide!" as the subject, but I didn't think that would go over too well if you didn't realize I had watched Hook on Saturday - so I stuck with something a little more obvious. BTW, that scene in the ship with Hook and Smee - CLASSIC! I always laugh so hard - I need to make quote icons for that movie!

So just a few things I wanna touch on in this time when I SHOULD be studying some more for the EUH test (I say more b/c I've been studying pretty much all weekend at various times)...

Took the 2nd Test in ANT today - I'm not sure if I did WELL (meaning A/B area), but I knew more than I did for the last test, so the grade SHOULD be higher than a 48 this time. I REALLY need it to be since we only have 5 grades in the class, including attendance. And this is one of my core classes for my major, so I HAVE to get at least a C in the class.

Saw my grade for my GLY midterm - 61. I'm satisfied with that because the test was hard as fuck (more than half the class had a problem with it) and I wasn't even sure if I was gonna PASS it. D isn't something to brag about, but at least it's passing (JUST passing at 61!)

I DID get an A on the GEA test on Asia and Austrailia - 90 to be exact! *dances* It's helped keep me motivated and keep my spirits up with the whole studying business. I really HATE to study, but i've come to learn it's a necessity in these classes. Though for GEA, it's all about the memorization and having a good photographic memory helps with that.

And just yesterday, got my grade for the EUH paper - 48/50! I was a little iffy about it b/c it was about persecution and I had just read the book about Anne Boleyn and was feeling particularly evil towards Christian religions at the time, so I felt it got a little too preachy even though I was trying HARD to keep it objective. It paid off because he said my arguments were good and the writing was strong - the thing that brought the it down 2 points was I made a mention of something that wasn't part of the topic of the paper (I had intended to go back and take it out because I realized I couldn't focus on it, but forgot to), but thankfully never went into it.

In other, non-school related news, it's FUCKING COLD here. And i'm not saying COLD like all y'all northerners would expect when people say cold, but COLD for FLORIDA in OCTOBER. Right now, it's 54 F. Both my  Google desktop and the Weatherchannel say the high is supposed to be 60, but it's already 1:30, the sun is shining, and it's not even 55 out. I DOUBT it's gonna get up to sixty. I got up this morning, and it was 41 with a wind chill of 37. The low for tonight is 31. For Tally, this is not uncommon - but it is when it's OCTOBER. Last year, it didn't get this cold here until AFTER I got back from Connecticut (it followed me, dammit!) - that was November. Halloween time is still WARM weather for us Floridians - it better not be cold like this on Friday. Lingerie in 50 F weather is not fun (Rocky Horror is playing at the SLC, so don't think I'm wearing Lingerie as my costume - I'm gonna be a whore... literally. I'm dressing up as a Renaissance wench. XP)

And my final note is - Bangarang is the new awesome. Awesome is just so mainstream and overused, and I'm tired of having to use it for both expressions of amazingness AND of sarcasm (which is what I use it for most anyway). So I'm gonna start using Bangarang in it's place when something is amazing. It's so fun and, well, people who are part of the cult fandom for Hook will appreciate its use! XD

XD

Son of a bitch - Panthers just frelling lost. Not that I'm surprised really, but hey - it would've been nice for them to win the first game I've been able to watch in a long time (Louisiana just isn't a place condusive for hockey watching). *sigh* Oh well... In more optimistic sports news, Junior finished second yesterday, and is now 9th in points! (I just looked on nascar.com b/c I'm a bad fan and haven't been watching the races).

Aaaaanywho, I am thoroughly procrastinating from studying for my GLY mid term tomorrow by doing... well, absolutely nothing! Seriously, I haven't done much of shit since getting back from walking around with Marymee. I just have been feeling very lazy today - I'm taking advantage of my nothing to do Monday. Plus, I got all the study cards made for the midterm last night (cramped up my hand like frell, too - and what sucked is a realized I didn't have my ace bandage when I REALLY needed it), so half the work is done right now. I migh hunker down with one of the SG-1 movie OSTs and start cramming in that information after I post...

But I'm so feeling like writing fic right now - I just don't know if anything I'll write will come out any good. I'm feeling like anything I'll attempt just won't be...nice. Nothing is looking very exciting and worth doing at the moment - so L&L right now, it's not even funny...

I could always post the 365s for the past few weeks - I have been keeping up with it, just haven't gotten around to posting it. Or, I could read more of Alliances since I haven't read any since Saturday - there's a lot of things I could do. I just need to get motivated.

So I saw Wall-E all three days it showed at the SLC. How could I not?? I mean, it's such an awesomely cool movie, and being able to see if for FREE is also a drawing factor. I saw two more "cameos", INCLUDING the Pizza Planet Truck. I was so pissed I didn't see it the first time b/c I know that's the ONE thing that's in every Disney/Pixar movie! Also saw Mike Wasowski, and idk how I missed THAT the first time! *snirk* Anywho, that is one movie I will be putting on my X-mika list.

In other movie news, I picked up Indy 4 from Mike's on Thursday. I just couldn't help it - I needed it. From now on, though, no more unnecessary spending. I got my care package from Madre on Thursday with lots of Ramen noodles, Easy Mac, and being the awesome Mommy she is, she gave me popcorn and hot cocoa too! XD So now that I have food to eat here in my room, I won't have to spend so much on take out.

I think that's about it for now - the more I type here, the more inspired I seem to get to work on some fic.

NCIS PWNED on Tuesday!

Anywho, just wanted to drop in a say I'm more than positive I at least got a B on the GEA test. The only things I didn't know for sure were the questions on religion. I hadn't made any study cards for that stuff - I knew it would be on the test b/c he spent a whole day talking about the religions of Asia, but knowing how his tests are, I knew it wouldn't be the prominant thing. But there were enough questions on it that it could drop my grade to a B if I end up getting them wrong. The map stuff and pictures, however, I had down. I knew where everything he asked for was on the map, and I knew every one of the locations for the pictures. I'm very confident that this grade will be good.

And I just finished doing the primary paper for EUH. I think it might be a little less of what he asked for, but he really didn't ask for anything specific. He just have us a list of topics to choose from, and compare and contrast the sources you had to read with that topic. This time around, I picked Persecution. I though it was a good topic, would be easy to do, considering that's what I JUST finished reading about in the Anne Boleyn book. I've always found religions to be an interesting topic - as long as nobody is asking what MY religion is and criticizing me for not having any ties to any one, I'm in. It's fun to learn what every religion's beliefs are, and to interpret and experience from a neutral POV. Sure, there are some religions I've learned haven't been very good for history at all (good example - watch The Tudors ;D), but still if it's involved with history, I want to know it! XD

Yeah, so now i'm gonna head off to Mickey D's for lunch (after checking to see if Madre's package is here), then it's the GLY test review, and EUH.
