So I've been meaning to do a nice little update all week - and haven't gotten around to it until now. I know there's a few things I want to touch on, but I have no idea how long this posting oomph will last (because I want to work on some fic as well)...

Hmmmm, what to start with...

I guess we can start with the reading situation. I finished Breaking Dawn last Friday evening - absolutely loved it. I know I'll definitely be reading that one again - probably even before I even consider picking up the other three books again (okie donkie, Twilight is definitely a very tempting book to re-read!). But that won't be happening until I get through all the other books I need to read (I really shouldn't have gone out and bought the Twilight Saga and read it all...i know that, but it was too good and i'm glad I did it!), and not until after I reread Lord of the Rings because it's really been too frelling long since I read those.

Currently, I am reading Anne Boleyn: A New Life of England's Tragic Queen. It's a historical account/biography on Anne. I'm very much enjoying it - the way it's written is quite good. It is a history book, but it reads a lot like a novel in some sense. Maybe it has to do with the subject matter, which is quite dramatic and outstanding in it's truth. I find it fun to read what actually happened in history and compare it to how the creators of The Tudors interpreted that information. It gets the mind going seeing how they twisted certain character's storylines - I especially love the twist with Margaret and Brandon on the show compared to the actual historical account. It's really making me want to rewatch both seasons of the Tudors even more (though I've decided I want to try and hold off on it until S.2 comes out on DVD. That happens 12/30. It'll definitely be a test of my will power!). Following this, I'm gonna read a book on Elizabeth I. Then it'll be back to my reading list still left from the summer.

So two of my shows returned this week - NCIS and ER. Of course I've been watching NCIS regularly for about 2 seasons now, and ER is pretty much a fandom I stick to in syndication. It's not a show I find easy to keep up with while it's in it's current season. But seeing as this is the LAST season of ER (which is just unbelievable), I felt I needed to watch it all. ESPECIALLY considering Carter will be back for 4 eps, and apparently Anthony Edwards is making an appearence (do NOT know how they're gonna pull THAT off!). Anywho, my thoughts on this week's eps for both:

Moving from tv to movies, there is a movie I saw on Tuesday (which is why I missed NCIS premiere) that is just mind blowing! It's called The Fall, and if you haven't seen it, you absolutely HAVE TO! I won't give away too much about (though the trailer below does tell a lot of the story), but just the visual awesomeness and the tenderness of the story itself is all breathtaking! It was filmed over a period of 4 years in 18 different countries... yeah, big scale, epic stuff. I went out and got it at Best Buy on DVD Wednesday because I loved it so much. I'll probably end up watching it again this weekend...it has become one of my favorite movies. I highly recommend it!

Here's the trailer:

I think that's about it for now... I do have a few random things I want to touch on though:

WHY does facebook have to cut me off from sending specific people flair when I find the PERFECT one to send them when flair!spamming?!?!?

Today was the first time, since the night it premiered, that I watched Unending all the way through again. Of course i've watched THAT SCENE more times then I can count, and various other parts (the most important DV parts) as well, but I hadn't sat down and consciously watched the full episode since the night SG-1 aired it's last new episode. Yeah, I cried just like that night. *sigh* Nothing will ever be as awesome as SG-1 was and still is....nothing!

I had TWO Venti Iced Chai today - *shakes head* I swear, the stuff is like CRACK - I am so addicted to it (though I think it's to make up for the fact that I didn't get any for two days b/c the Starbucks on campus was OUT of Chai)!

For everyone living under a rock, Daniel is on SGA tonight!!! I'm mucho excited - it's been a long time since I've been excited for an episode of Stargate (not since the night Unending aired, of course!) and it's fun to be bouncy like this again!

Now I think that's all!

Oye...

You know what just... aggravates the fuck outta me?? When someone goes and assumes that I know nothing about a fandom I'm completely immersed in and tries to tell me off - correct something that DOESN'T NEED correcting!

So we all would consider it safe to say that I know my Stargate (at LEAST, SG-1 wise), right? I'm pretty up on things pertaining to it (like I've been telling [livejournal.com profile] dvshipper  concerning another fandom, I have my sources) - hell, some of you even come to me when you can't remember specific episodes or characters or quotes. Sure, I don't remember EVERY MINUTE DETAIL... Things get shuffled out to make room for incoming other fandoms and more recent Stargate stuff. But when it comes to the important things, I remember - ESPECIALLY concerning Daniel.

Well, I wrote a fic (*gasp* surely I jest!) for [livejournal.com profile] stargatefest ... posted it yesterday there, on [livejournal.com profile] daniel_vala , and on ff.net. For those you who DON'T know about it, it was a prompt that dealt with a Mummy crossover focused around Daniel and the fact that Egypt was in his blood. A fun concept that I couldn't pass up - I've been itching to do a good Mummy/SG-1 crossover, just hadn't found the right way to do it. This gave me that opportunity...

Of course, it was still hard for me to do - the only way I could make it easier on myself to write was having it be DV because I am so comfortable writing them together. Even then, I had trouble writing it. I had the original idea already started and halfway finished, but something kept nagging at me telling me something was off. So I checked, found out my logistics timeline was shaky, at best, and that I needed to do some quick thinking and change the original idea for the fic around.

I thought of a way to twist it and make it work - I went and CHECKED my facts to make sure I had it right this time, and then it all fell into place and i was able to finish it, have it beta'd, and post it before the deadline (which is today). And for the most part, people seem to be enjoying the way I've blended the two worlds. That's a comfort b/c I felt so iffy about this fic, wondering if it could all seem plausible. But I'd thought over all the possibilities, made sure all the bases both on the Mummy side and the SG-1 side were covered...

Then I get THIS comment, and now I'm frustrated/aggravated/pissed off. All this hard work put into a fic, and now someone is calling me out on something that shouldn't even BE an issue! I was concerned someone would bring up the kind of shaky timeline bit, NOT this nonsense about being wrong about Daniel's grandfather.

And I know it's just one person being obtuse and assuming something right off the bat, but it still irks me - ESPECIALLY when this person even had the nerve to provide links to the episodes summaries that she figured I knew NOTHING about. I KNOW about Gateworld - I know I can go there if I ever need to research anything for my fics, and I do. I also have several SG-1 books that serve as amazing references. And my wonderful beta, who is beyond amazing, always double checks the facts for me. If I'm wrong about something, she'll let me know.

*breathes* I just needed to rant about this - I hate when people act dumb. I'm sure this person meant well, but just going and assuming I don't know my shit when it comes to SG-1 is insulting to me.

Just a little private joke between me and[info]taraleesg1 !

I came to this random, and very true, thought last night...

There are two types of 'getting ready for bed'. There's 'getting ready for bed' and then there's 'getting ready for Stargate'.

See, with normal getting ready for bed, you usually mosey on into the bathroom and take your time getting 'ready' for bed (at least I do... I tend to get distracted along the way, too). You know, takes a comfortable 5-10 minutes to do it, depending on what all you do when getting ready. Then you mosey on back to your room and finish up the process in whatever way you choose....

Now getting ready for Stargate isn't much different... the only difference is you do EVERYTHING that normally takes you 5-10 minutes in 2 MINUTES FLAT. Take off the makeup, wash the face, brush teeth, and listerine.... Add another minute to rush to the potty (this is the dorm version - there's no extra minute needed for a regular bathroom)... and bam, you are BACK in bed, all cozy and warm before the commercial break even finishes... (b/c you'd rushed off to get ready as soon as the SG intro was over)

This was just some random conclusion I came to last night while getting ready for Fallen...b/c DAMN, I did all my shit FAST AS HELL...

And this doesn't just pertain to getting ready for bed - that's only exclusive to the late as FUCK showings Skiffy insists on with SG-1, as opposed to the good ol' days of SG-1 on every Monday night for 4 wonderful hours. There's also the food run becoming an SG-1 snack dash (dangerous down stairs, btw!)...

Don't lie - if you're an SG fan, you've done this at least once before... maybe not so much now after knowing each episode by heart. And if you STILL do this, even knowing what everyone says word for damn word in the episode, then you know where I'm coming from b/c I STILL do this... It's impulse, isn't it?!

Just came to do a little pimpage and what not....got a couple things to pimp, actually.

First, pimping my fic journal, [profile] brabbit_hole because I am finally caught up on posting all my fics over there - at least all the fics I have posted elsewhere. *phew* It literally took me all afternoon, and several of you know because I spammed your flist (for those of you who've friended the journal!). Anywho, go check it out, and check out [profile] brabbit_tables as well, which is the journal where I keep the tables for the fics posted on [profile] brabbit_hole .

Also, since I NEVER did it here (except for maybe a half-assed attempt), let me make a mention for my personal graphics comm, [profile] brabbit_arts . I got it all finished and updated a while back, but I have yet to post my own graphics on there. Go check it out, and feel free to join if you wish! XD

Last but not least, have to pimp [profile] dvshipper 's totally amazing VIDEO in tribute to a show we will never let die! She did such a wonderful job, and there's absolutely no way I COULDN'T give it snaps! It'll make you cry, but in such a good way! Major snaps, [profile] dvshipper!! *tackle!huggles!*

That is all for now!

One minute was waaay too long to live without our show going on like it had, let alone ONE YEAR!

dannysgirlsg1: (Danny - I saw his heroism)
So, remember when I asked for a little help from ya'll, the flist? I asked for specific moments in SG-1 when the team took a stand for what they believed in, or when they seemed to be at the end of their run...

Well, putting several of ya'll's suggestions together with the ideas I already had, I managed to throw a nice little vid together. It took a lot more work than my other previous vids but surprisingly it only took about two days to get it together (and that's WITH watching AOT twice on Tuesday, when the majority of it was worked on)...

Like I mentioned last week, the vid is dedicated to my flist, especially to the specific friends who gave me the ideas that were put to use in the vid! I thank you very much! *huggles flist*

so without any further ado, here's the vid!

Title: Stand
Song: 'Stand' by Rascal Flatts
Size: 39.9 MB
Spoilers: Ha, well - lots of things are from various episodes throughout the series, so any moment you can think were someone from SG-1 might give up, or would stand up for themselves and others, that's game - so pretty much the entire series! ;P
Summary: When push comes to shove, they taste what they're made of.

I had plans to shower and get my room picked up, preferably before the late afternoon - but of course, couldn't help from checking skiffy, and ALAS, SG-1 is the rotation today - end of S.8, so that means shower and cleaning is out until 3 (cause there's no possible way I can pass up FLAG!DANIEL! *hence the nekkid michael icon*)

So while I watch the rest of today's rotation, let's do a mem AHHHHHHHHHHH, DANNY NEKKID!!!!!!....*cough* anywho, onto the meme

Meme during SG-1 )

I'll probably be doing a substantial update after SG-1 is over, and I get my stuff done around here.

OH, and something that seriously IRKS me - Jim is watching SG-1 right now too. ICK!
