"What do you mean you people?"
Apr. 3rd, 2009 04:27 pmDamn, two pony!icon posts back to back... fandom is failing me!
To start, let me say there are some fandoms I'm VERY GLAD I couldn't get into - not that everyone in these fandoms is completely wonko. Still, I couldn't handle the amount of crazy ones that are in certain fandoms...I'm sure many of you are aware of which specific fandom I'm referring to. I'm not talking of you guys specifically because I know y'all are sane and rational, at least to the extent that a fangirl can be.
But it's instances like the one in this specific fandom that give ALL fangirls a bad rep. I don't appreciate it. Really...there is a BIG difference between being a committed fan (pun possibly intended ;P) and a raving lunatic stalker. Actually, it's not just about THIS incident. It's all the fangirl!insanity going around lately (TWILIGHT ANYONE?!) that makes it really hard for PERFECTLY NORMAL fans to go about their fan business.
These actors don't know you personally - they are not your friends (in the sense that you could just simply 'hang out' with them on the weekends and whatsuch). You can meet them at a con, and it's very likely they will not remember you among the hundreds of other fans they meet that day. You are not the only person or group of people that have exclusive rights to them - respect their boundaries and respect them as PEOPLE. They take time to come and see you at conventions (and by you, I mean the respective fandoms in general),and yes I'm aware they get paid, but they are still taking time to listen to your questions and personally sign autographs for you. APPRECIATE the opportunity you HAVE to meet these people - don't be spoiled, selfish, demented brats about this chance before you.
*phew* Alright, I'm done. I'm still thoroughly disgusted by several fangirl actions as of late. But I take comfort in the fact that, for the most part , there is a honorable level of respect in the fandoms I take part in (not saying we don't have our raving fanfreaks, or that Twilight is included inthat honorable level).
