That was my immediate response to the guys in the suits when they started talking - didn't they just sound like the droids from Star Wars?? Yeah, I totally cracked myself up with it too...

Anywho, here's what I have to say...

AWWWWWWWWW, poor Daniel! He's absolutely terrified of high levels of radiation, isn't he?!?! Not that I BLAME him for that fear, but just.....I so AWWWWWWWWWWWed and just wanted to huggle him so tightly right then!

Of course, I enjoyed the whole episode (I think that's the first time I've said that about an SGA episode EVAR!), and I'm excited for the one in two weeks...

(And no, I'm not watching Smoke and Mirrors because I don't want HIM to ruin my Daniel high, which he will - even though I really enjoy the whole driving conversation between T and HIM.)

Evil? Spawn? JONAS?

Sorry, I guess that description mildly confuses me since I view him as the harmless puppy dog of the SG-1 universe :p

To keep you from getting more upset, I probably don't want to ask about the deep-seeded hatred ;)

Puppy dog meaning he would cower in a corner and need the alpha males to come and save his pathetic ass? ;D

It is a deep-seeded hatred, yes, but it doesn't upset me much to talk about it. Ragging on Jonas is something I do well - he was a Daniel Wannabe who COULD'VE been his own character had he not been made to be Daniel's replacement - let's face it, Daniel is just not replaceable. Jonas just did all the same stuff Daniel did, but not as good and looked horribly ugly while doing it. Plus I just HATE the mannerisms... so jerky and unappealing - like a crack addict...

Wow, tell me how you really feel :S

By puppy dog I mean he was always so eager to please everyone but was rarely allowed to help...or his suggestions were usually shrugged off or ignored. I also call him a puppy because he was kicked so many times by Jack, by Sam, and by TPTB. They treated that character and actor like crap and in the process made me hate Jack and lose almost all respect for Sam.

I will agree with you that he didn't fill Daniel's shoes but I don't think anyone could have. I respect CN for all the crap he probably took simply for doing something that MS didn't want to do anymore.

I guess I have a different perspective since I came back and watched S6 after watching S9-10. While I am not the most avid Jonas fan, I do feel bad for him. He had the unenviable task of filling the shoes of a beloved character...plus, it always seemed like when he offered his help, nobody wanted it or listened. He saved SG-1 at least once and nearly lost his life another time trying to do the same and only Janet recognized that, for which she forever earned my respect :)

In the long run, I think they shouldn't have even tried to put someone in that position to try and fill Daniel's shoes because it just wasn't gonna happen. TPTB doomed the character to be hated by many a hardcore Daniel fan - but also in the long run, I think it was that mistake that helped bring Daniel back...

Michael didn't take the way his character was being treated lying down, and I don't think Corin should've either. I do agree that the way his character was handled was crappy, by both TPTB and the other characters, and it wasn't entirely Corin's fault. But it's also the way he went at it - the acting he did to make Jonas just always rubbed me the wrong way. I guess it might be because I wanted DANIEL, and he wasn't Daniel...

And about Jack constantly 'kicking' Jonas, I honestly think Jack was going through as a character the same thing I was as a viewer. He would want Daniel, and all he saw was Jonas. One thing that really turned me againsy Jonas was his line in Redemption part 2 where he says to Jack 'Dr. Jackson is dead.' Just the way he said it, I was immediately like OH NO. The Jack/Daniel friendship was one of the things that drew me into SG-1, so that's another thing that has biased my opinion towards Jonas...

I understand where you're coming from - I respect that because maybe you're a better person for being able to see the good in Jonas. I just CAN'T do it...*shrugs*

Team Daniel all the way for me! ;D

Yeah, I think the difference in our opinions is mostly stemming from the fact that you went into that season expecting/wanting Daniel whereas I searched it out to see what SG-1 was like without Daniel.

I don't like S6, and not because the episodes were bad or because of the lack of Daniel. I disliked it because I felt like I was watching a team of unlikable jerks. To me the characters were OOC. Yeah, I get that they were still mourning Daniel and viewing Jonas as an interloper...but to sit there and watch Jack act like an ass to someone who was trying to help him for 20+ episodes was frustrating. And to see Sam saying things like "you're such a chicken shit" shocked me and honestly made me angry. That's not Sam, that's just someone being a b*tch for no \reason. There is a difference between mourning and being cruel...and that line was crossed in the first episode of S6 for me.

The writers gave Jonas a lot of moments that proved his worth, but it seemed like the one thing they forgot was to show anyone acknowledging that.

Then again, I suppose I'm a sucker for the underdogs...after all, I liked Cam when all of the hardcore Jack fans said he was just a pail imitation of O'Neill.

See, from the way you're looking at it, I can definitely understand how SG-1 would seem bitchy and cruel. Then again, from my POV, i was rooting their meanness on - I have said some pretty not nice things about Jonas while watching episodes. Of course mourning can lead to bitterness and resentment, so I think that kinda explains that.

It IS all a matter of perspective and how you went into S.6 and what you were looking/wishing for. I think it's fun and enlightening to have little discussions like this to see how others saw that season. I personally don't hate Season 6 because my all time favorite episode is in it, but I don't like it either - not just for the lack of Daniel, but for the lack of the TEAM. I agree that SG-1 wasn't themselves that season and it's a very tense season to watch. My personal opinion is that it's because of Daniel's absence, but again - it's all a matter of interpretation.

And I'm all with you on the Cam front - I have LOVED LOVED LOVED Cam since that very first scene where he walked up to the gate, bent down and touched it. I never have and never will think Cam was anywhere NEAR an imitation of Jack. They are both seperate and very different characters that I love to bits - they are as different as Cam is from John Crichton. So with Cam we are in complete agreement!

You know, I think TPTB learned from some of their mistakes with Jonas when they created Cam. The biggest one (in my opinion) is that you have to give the character an "in" on the team. Jonas was disliked by at least two characters with Teal'c only sometimes arguing his case. Cam came in with automatic relationships established and a seemingly close friendship with Sam already in place. He was new, yes, but he never felt like a complete outsider who had to prove himself to his team (although he did have to prove himself to the audience :p).

I think that if the CHARACTERS refuse to accept a newbie then it's nearly impossible for the viewers to, because we often view other characters through their eyes. I understand that you can't just gloss over the mourning process and the bitterness that accompanies a beloved characters' death *cough*Weir*cough*, but at the same time you can't let it go on forever at the expense of the characters and the team. That is what I perceive to be the biggest mistake of the character of Jonas, that the writers seemed to be counterproductive in their attempts to make the audience like him. Instead of trying to change your mind about this "replacement" for Daniel, they promoted your anger and dislike.

I agree with you about Cam though. I never saw him as a Jack stand-in or rip-off. I think they're two completely different characters. While it took me some time to warm to Cam, I love him now. Granted, I seem to collect the new characters...4 out of my top 5 are Vala, Cam, Jonas, and Landry (Daniel being the other). Although I do like all of the members...well, except Jack who I want to hit with a club sometimes!

Wow, that was long-winded! Yay for discussions though :p

OMG I didn't even make the connection with the radiation comment. Bad fangirl, bad.

And just a little comment because I've been reading Eclipse, so I wonder how much Daniel gets paid. And you know, he doesn't leave the base much so you have to wonder how much he's got saved up. My point being, him and Edward could have a pretty good time together I imagine, getting into all sorts of expensive trouble. XD

YOU DIDN'T!?! *gasp* I should have you thrown from the Daniel fandom for that! XP

OH YOU!!! You are a wicked, wicked person. I was thinking, though - as much awesome it would be to have those two together, I would also want to see reactions from Vala and Bella to how their guys act around each other.... Because come on, how could there NOT be Vala or Bella involvement!

Yes, yes, I know. But it's just hard to make connections sometimes. But yes, that was a big one. *peels eyes open for future references and such*

I'm seriously considering writing that bookstore idea now. A conversation between Bella and Vala about their relationships could be amazing. Like Bella telling Vala all this stuff about how Vala feels, even though she doesn't know her. There's so many possibilities for SG-1/Twilight crossover!
