It's lookin' like all us archaeologists/anthropologists should start carrying a weapon and defending ourselves...at least those of us coming out of FSU...
So remember several weeks ago when I said there was a very big personal issue I was going through that would very likely effect my entire future?? Yeah, well, it's just gotten a lot worse...
There's budget problems all over the country and/or world. And I wasn't expecting they wouldn't effect me and the university I attend. I figured FSU was gonna raise tuition (which they will start doing). I never, in my wildest dreams, figured that the school's budget problems were so bad they'd consider cutting entire DEPARTMENTS in order to get by. But that's what one of major plans is...and GUESS which department is at the TOP of the list of targeted cuts??
That's RIGHT - it's ANTHROPOLOGY.
Yeah, we've known about it being a pretty possible department put on the chopping block for a while, and have been campaigning against it (and not just for our department, but for ALL departments put into the 'possible' category). But THIS ARTICLE came out, and well...can anyone blame us majors for flipping out??
I'm really upset by this. I have already put so much into this school money and major wise. It's already stressful enough dealing with college in general, but now we have this added problem? What are we supposed to do, those of us Anthro. majors not graduating in the next year or so? If it is cut, i'll either have to change majors or change schools. Neither of those are options I want to take, but it's looking like I'll have to make a choice soon.
*headdesk* And today started out so good...
