"What do you mean you people?"

Damn, two pony!icon posts back to back... fandom is failing me!

To start, let me say there are some fandoms I'm VERY GLAD I couldn't get into - not that everyone in these fandoms is completely wonko. Still, I couldn't handle the amount of crazy ones that are in certain fandoms...I'm sure many of you are aware of which specific fandom I'm referring to. I'm not talking of you guys specifically because I know y'all are sane and rational, at least to the extent that a fangirl can be.

But it's instances like the one in this specific fandom that give ALL fangirls a bad rep. I don't appreciate it. Really...there is a BIG difference between being a committed fan (pun possibly intended ;P) and a raving lunatic stalker. Actually, it's not just about THIS incident. It's all the fangirl!insanity going around lately (TWILIGHT ANYONE?!) that makes it really hard for PERFECTLY NORMAL fans to go about their fan business.

These actors don't know you personally - they are not your friends (in the sense that you could just simply 'hang out' with them on the weekends and whatsuch). You can meet them at a con, and it's very likely they will not remember you among the hundreds of other fans they meet that day. You are not the only person or group of people that have exclusive rights to them - respect their boundaries and respect them as PEOPLE. They take time to come and see you at conventions (and by you, I mean the respective fandoms in general),and yes I'm aware they get paid, but they are still taking time to listen to your questions and personally sign autographs for you. APPRECIATE the opportunity you HAVE to meet these people - don't be spoiled, selfish, demented brats about this chance before you.

*phew* Alright, I'm done. I'm still thoroughly disgusted by several fangirl actions as of late. But I take comfort in the fact that, for the most part , there is a honorable level of respect in the fandoms I take part in (not saying we don't have our raving fanfreaks, or that Twilight is included inthat honorable level).

That's the problem. These psychotic fangirls don't seem to see these actors as people. Amazingly enough, they are just like everyone else, the only difference being they have a job that makes them very visible to the public. And however much these fangirls think they might know these actors, they really don't. Doesn't matter if they're not in character, on stage at a con, or in an interview, they're probably not the same when they're just hanging out with normal, real friends. I believe Michael's talked about that before; creating a persona that's still him, but allows him to communicate with the fans without being shy.

That's one of the reasons I hesitate to tell people I'm kinda a Twilight fangirl when it comes up. Because people automatically assume that you're Robert Pattinson obsessed and scream all the time. Whereas, I take great pride in the fact of being a Stargate fangirl. It's an intelligent show with respectful (generally) fans. The problem with Twilight fandom is it's all these screaming teenage girls who probably don't even know why they're screaming.

And, yes, all that fangirl craziness is why you have to immediately tack on "but I'm one of the respectful, smart, decent ones" when you're talking fandom and say you're a fangirl. Fangirls everywhere are sort of representing all the other fangirls when they meet an actor or someone involved in the show/movie/book that started the fandom. They should realize that and be aware of their actions and how they look to other people.

HUZZAH to everything you said!

We have the common sense to APPRECIATE our actor(s) and provide them their SPACE and RESPECT them as people. It's why they keep coming to the cons year after year!

With Twilight, I can not really understand their fanfreakyness. But for OTHER fandoms, where a lot of the fanbase is well past teen!squee puberty years, it's a bit mind boggling!

Well, obviously a lot of them are taken a little too far by the idea of fandom and lose all sense of what is decent and what is degrading!

Actually these little girls don't bother me. At least they aren't screaming at the top of the lungs through a whole concert of The Beatles or in a hormonal response to the wiggling hips of Elvis Presley. I just wanted to scream out too..."Shut the hell up so we can hear." hehe

But we just have to remember the pre-adolenscent crier for her one true first love Sanjaya. Oh the drama of the preteen girl. So glad I have a son. :D

Actually, I wasn't just focusing on the puberty stricken fan!tweens that make up the majority of Twilight fandom (though a lot of the focus is on them). There is another incident in ANOTHER fandom recently that involves ladies far enough beyond the tween!squee days to understand what is decent fangirling and what is disgusting fangirling - and yet they still do/say things that gives us all a mantle of craziness.

And I don't appreciate being held to a mold because I am NOT like that. I understand my place in fandom and I respect it.

It's good to know you can ignore these fanidiotsm, though! More power to ya! XD

oh oh... I know what you are talking about and that does border on the Very Strange to the point of totally disrespectful to a professional. I really don't think that it is every proper to take images of people and put them in compromising positions. Positions being the key word. Those things always disgust me and I think people should try to put themselves in the actors place and wonder what they would feel with their head on the body of someone in "action". Just my little pet peeve here.

I think the BEST reaction to it was Michael Shanks with his "What up with you people?!" line at TT20 because seriously - why?! I mean I GET being a slasher and there are some manips that are tastefully done ([livejournal.com profile] magnavox_23's for example), but going up and showing them to the actors who hve FAMILIES and are often MARRIED or WITH someone is crossing the line. Enjoy such fandom things privately amongst other fans.
