"you gotta bat you eyes, like this..."
So after just over a month of posting NOTHING of my reading list, I come forth with progress, changes, and shifts in the list.
First off, I gave up on the romance novel. I just COULDN'T take the bad writing and whatsuch. In the end, it was either give up on it or try and pretend I'd actually finish it, thus destroying my goal to complete my book list by August 22nd. So giving up on it was the right choice...
Of course I was in about two weeks of denial about giving up on it because i had to cop out on ANY of my list *sigh* So that put me a smidge behind in reading (i mean, TWO WEEKS - that's like three or four books i could've read!). And it also kinda killed that beginning drive to read that the first novel on the list had given me. But thankfully the next book on the list was the next SG-1 novel i needed to read, so again my urge to read, read, read has been restored! And what's fun is the next two books are SG-1 books as well (though only one of them is a novel)....
But back to the being a smidge behind. I was discussing it with Madre, and we did a bit of rough math (there was a 4 carried, yes) and came to the conclusion that I just wouldn't be able to do it in time with all the books I had on the list. So after some thing and gazing upon the list, I decided to take all the STAR WARS novels OFF and save those for a time when I'm ready to sit down and read ALL of the novels I have (b/c I have a lot of the after the movies novels that i have never cracked open). I also took the one book i had y'all vote on off the list, simply because I AM determined to reach my goal and i don't want a non-novel or sg-1 book to get me in the same place the romance novel did. Even with all the changes, that still leaves 20 books on the list. *sigh* It'll be tough, but i AM determined to finish this list before Chicago (or possibly even whil AT Chicago).
And as you can on the list up there, I finished Siren Song. I am STILL gonna post it's chapter table just for my own personal 'record' and so i have a place with the page count. XD
Now I just had a gander at my next book, and like the season companions, it doesn't have actually 'CHAPTERS', so i'll be doing just the page count update like I did for the S.9 Companion....

My Thoughts on the book:
I really don't have much to say about this one, bad wise. Actually, I nothing to say bad wise about that book. It was as good as all of the other SG-1 novels in the series I have read so far. It focused on something that wasn't addressed within the confines of the show, and I was impressed how it tied so well into the canon. This one happened to be a stand alone from the rest of the series - i think there MIGHT have been a small reference to 'Sacrifice Moon', but it was so subtle i wasn't sure. It wasn't anything specific to that novel, like it had been in 'City of the Gods'. But when that part was mentioned, my mind automatically went to an almost identifcal scene in 'Sacrifice Moon', so it's possible. One thing that I take as a highlight and a lowlight was that there was less of the banter between Jack and Daniel (there were a few choice moments - actually, i was gonna say there wasn't anything that was AM worthy, but I just recalled a moment I'd like as an AM) and more focus on their FRIENDSHIP as a lot of us here take it as. That underlying, unspoken, no banter needed stuff. I don't want to say too much and spoil the whole premise of the book, but there were some rather heartfeltish moments that showed the authors definitely appreciated that Jack and Daniel ARE the best of friends.
The biggest highlights, though, were the visual explanations of the library AND even in the characters heads (and we go there A LOT in this book - the only POV that was not really looked into was Teal'c) AND the MASSIVE Danny whump. Oh, and like I said, the major focus on the unspoken stuff between Jack and Daniel. That they get and KNOW each other. Even one of the other characters brings up the whole 'not needing to speak to speak and understand' thing. It was a good addition to the series as a whole, and a wonderful stand alone story, and i DEFINITELY recommend it!
