See, this is always the difficult part for me - trying to express why I feel the way i feel about a certain scene! It's why I don't write metas! *snirk* But what it says about their developing relationship? Hmmmm, how to put it... there is a deep root of understanding tying them together, and despite all their disagreements and whatsuch, they will always understand each other and in turn know what the other will ultimately want. Kind of like with what Daniel has with Jack, except with Vala there is a romantic attraction. Yeah, I don't think that did my point justice, but I gave it a try!

As for his lack of compassion - that's interesting b/c I NEVER would have interpreted it that way. And it took me a few minutes to think out why I don't think that... I see Daniel knowing she would want to and letting Vala stay behind as his compassionate gesture to the host. With the case of Apophis, the host was dying - there was nothing that could be done for him. Seeing as the host was originally from Ancient Egypt, Daniel was able to help by guiding him on to the next life. He had enough knowledge to be of assistance. With Ba'al's host, Daniel probably felt he couldn't really help b/c he doesn't know what it's like to go through such hell for so long. So him letting Vala stay behind, who has experience with being a host for an extended period of time, is his way of helping b/c he wouldn't be able to offer the kind of comfort Ba'al's host would need.
